My First Attempt to Faux Leather

Here is my question to you. Does this look like leather?  Please be honest...

Hi Everyone,  I hope you are enjoying Ash Wednesday. Got my ashes today with my Daughter. She was so excited about.  Anyway,  I'm trying out a new technique that I found on youtube and I wanted to see how it turned out before I use it on a box I'm doing for a one-on-one swap.

If it doesn't, please give me some tips and/or tricks to make them look like leather.  I used masking tape and tore them in little pieces on a Kraft cardstock.  Then I rubbed vintage photo and walnut stain distress ink from Tim Holtz.  After many layers of ink, I then dry it and added some versa mark to emboss clear embossing powder and viola.  My faux leather is what you see above.

Thanks for stopping by today.  Have a great Week.

Hugs, Friday

Hmm, don't know. I can't compare it with anything leather, but maybe the strips need to be a little smaller? I've seen faux alligator from made from paper and the lines were pretty thin. Sorry Friday! Wish I could've helped!

Hi, Friday! I think you did a fabulous job on the faux leather! The texture and color are great! The only thing I would do differently is try to cover up the straight lines and corners of the tape. If you place the pieces so the torn edge covers up the straight ones, it makes a huge difference. The ink tends to catch on the corners and makes it look like squares...once they're gone I think you'll have it. The texture looks fabulous! :o)

Thanks, Nancy! I notice that too and I did a little piece and covered all the straight lines and it did look better. Thanks for your help. I hope it turns out. Thanks so much ladies!! Hugs!!

Well I have no idea what it's suppose to look like. LOL
So I'll just have to say that it is very unique. I've never seen it done. I'll have to check some out.
hugs
